Updated on 2018-03-03 by Shivam Setia
Asus is going all out this time with its Zenfone series and has announced three new Zenfone 5 Models at the Mobile World Congress(MWC) which concluded on 1st March 2018. The new Zefonne 5 2018 series comes with three models namely Asus Zenfone 5, Asus Zenfone 5Z and the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite.
The design and quality of Zenfone 5 and 5Z are mostly the same but are quite different in the internal hardware section. On the other hand, Zenfone 5 Lite as the name suggests is the lighter version with a different design.
So let us go straight away to what this new Zenfone 5 (2018) series is here to offer.
Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) Expected Price, Features and Release Date In India
The new Zenfone 5, the 2018 variant, is here and it comes with a Full View Display(19:9 Aspect Ratio) and 90% screen to body ratio. It comes with a 6.2 Inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080 X 2246 but the phone is smaller than many phones with 5.5 inches making it easy to hold and operate with one hand. The phone is damn beautiful in terms of display and looks with a metal back that is sort of a fingerprint magnet. The most noticeable feature of the phone is the iPhone X like notch on the top, which shows different types of notifications when the user slides down from the left and right of the notch.
The notch is slightly taller and narrower but it does not have those face recognition hardware than on iPhone X. The Asus Zenfone 5 Supports face unlocking but is not mainstream and secure than on the iPhone X. The company claims that it is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to adjust the brightness and color temperature of the display.
On the Camera front of the Asus Zenfone 5, the rear camera has a dual sensor with a vertical position like the iPhone X. One of the sensors is a 12MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX362 Sensor and the other is an 8MP sensor with a 120 Degree Wide Angle View. The phone has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to bring out a noise-free experience even in the low lighting conditions and also supports 4K video recording up to 60fps. The company also claims the role of AI into the camera by detecting various parameters like colour saturation, exposure time, white balance. It supports Portrait/Bokeh mode and a lot of other stuff. The camera seems to outpower everything here with its 1.4-micron pixel size on the 12MP sensor equalling to what was seen on HTC U11. The front camera supports an 8MP sensor (f/2.0) and you are surely going to love the camera features Zenfone 5 comes with.
This Asus Zenfone 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 636 as seen in the Redmi 5 Pro launched in February 2018 which is a very powerful processor. It comes in 4GB and 6GB variants and 64GB and 128 GB storage options with an option to expand the storage via the hybrid slot. The phone supports VOLTE on both the sim slots.
Zenfone 5 has a Corning Gorilla Glass protection and also support Type-C connector and has not ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone weighs only 155gm and is only 7.9mm in thickness and runs on Android Oreo 8.0. The battery has a capacity of 3300mAH which is capable enough to power you through the day and supports fast charging with its 5V/2A charger. It has a fingerprint sensor in the middle of the back and also supports face unlocking.
