Updated on 2018-03-02 by Geetansh Arora
Android GO is the newest Operating system with Nokia 1 being amongst the first Android Oreo (Go Edition) to be launched at the MWC 2018. Nokia 1 is the most economical smartphone from Nokia in the Android Series. Let us look at the specifications, price and date of availability in India.
Nokia 1 Specifications
In terms of specifications, it comes with a 4.5 inch IPS Display, 1 GB of RAM and is powered by 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M SoC which has an Antutu Benchmark Score of 21100. The rear camera has a 5 MP sensor with LED Flash and a 2 MP sensor on the front camera for selfies. Nokia 1 supports a battery of 2150mAH which should easily last for more than 1.5 days. It has an internal memory of 8GB which is expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD Card along with dual sim card slot.
Nokia 1 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and has sensors like accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.
It is quite clear that Nokia 1 does not have those top specification and is meant for someone who looks to use the phone for calling(mostly) that holds some basic entertainment and smartphone features. Under the Android Go platform, it is the cleanest software that only requires 3GB of Internal memory.
Nokia 1 Price and Availablity in India
Nokia 1 will be priced at $85(Approx Rs 5500). It will go on sale from April end and will be available in 2 colour variants Dark Blue and Warm Red.
More About Android Go from Google
Android Go, is simple words, is a lighter version of the Android that is meant to be supporting the low-end and inexpensive smartphones. This phones would have the specifications similar to the Nokia 1 i.e. Limited RAM and Storage. There is a separate version of Apps for the 'Android Go' edition like the Gmail Go, Youtube Go etc. that require less storage, less RAM and even consume lesser internet data. Even the Google Assistant has a Go Version available that can make phone calls, send messages, play music and do other basic stuff.
Apart from Nokia 1, some of the other handsets that are set to be launched with Android Go edition are Micromax Bharat Go, Alcatel 1X, Lava Z50.
Looks like Google and other manufacturers of these smartphones are moving in the right direction to make smartphones affordable and extend its usefulness to the untapped audience. These smartphones are set to give a good experience to the users but the price needs to come down to somewhere between $50-$60(approx Rs 3000) to make it feasible for everyone.
